Perfect Timing

So charming…little wood ducklings. Under their mother’s watchful eye, they rested on a log.

As I studied them, I had a thought. Their parents knew when it was time to build their nest and when it was time to mate.

And they will instinctively know when it’s time to let their children go. They act on their innate knowing, following the natural rhythms of the Earth.

I know that we humans possess the same innate wisdom about natural timing. At points in my life, I’ve recognized it was time to act, yet I hesitated. My fear of making a mistake and my resistance to change caused me much anxiety and worry.

What if I had simply listened for the timing, and confidently acted on my knowing? No resistance. Just an easy flow, so beautifully modeled in the natural world.

I suspect I might have suffered less, and enjoyed life more.

On Pause

There he was, out for an early morning hop…a lovely rabbit.

When he spotted me, he immediately froze. At first glance, freezing seemed like a poor defense, but I remembered something I had read. Assuming a posture of stillness makes the rabbit virtually invisible to its predators. Brilliant…

As I watched him, I had a thought. The rabbit was in pause mode, quietly assessing his situation before taking any action. Following natural wisdom, I suspect.

And I had a wondering. In the hurry-up human world, how often do I pause to listen and reflect and ponder before acting? I’ve heard it said that it’s within the pause that true wisdom can arise...wisdom to guide the next right action.

Soar

Sometimes I envy birds…imagine being able to fly off to wherever you wish. I thought about that as I watched this beautiful willow flycatcher resting on a branch.

I recognize that the only thing keeping me from spreading my wings and soaring is myself. It’s my human aspects that prefer predictability and routine with no unwelcome surprises.

But in my heart, where my true self resides, I feel a strong desire for adventure and wondrous experiences. Wings outstretched, nothing holding me back.

It’s time for my heart to take the lead…
